Above the Flower Shop* encompasses the work of Jennifer Brown as a textile artist and a freelance editor.
Jennifer’s art is made from linen and cotton fabrics by using a combination of hand-stitched reverse appliqué techniques and machine sewing. These pieces are meant to evoke her love of texture, color, and the natural world. Each piece of art is a meditation on the meeting of land and sea or a reflection of the gentle curving paths through the woods and beaches of her island home of Martha’s Vineyard. These pieces aim to evoke the sense of calm and wonder that one often feels at the sea.
Jennifer’s editing work is informed by her twenty+ years in trade publishing, first as an acquisitions editor and now as a freelance developmental editor and project manager.
*Where did the name come from? Above the Flower Shop is deeply inspired by Morrice Florist, our local flower shop and home base which is owned by Jennifer’s sister, Emily Coulter. Jennifer’s office and studio is in the space above the flower shop, where we like to think all the beauty and inspiration of the flowers and arrangements below influence the work above.
